For Immediate Release

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS—Harris County Residential Debris and Damage Assessment teams will begin debris clearance and damage assessments during the Labor Day 2017 weekend in unincorporated areas of the County affected by Hurricane Harvey.

RESIDENTIAL DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS BEGIN SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2017

If you live in unincorporated Harris County and have experienced flooding, you will need a permit to repair and/or rebuild. This is a FEMA requirement to ensure that flood insurance is available to residents of Harris County. Your insurance and/or FEMA will likely require seeing a copy of this permit in order to receive a refund.

Harris County inspectors will conduct in-home residential damage assessments. Residents will be able to clearly identify County inspectors by their County employee badges and County engineering department trucks. If you have a question about any inspector, please promptly call our hotline at 713-274-3880 to verify their identity.

RESIDENTIAL HOME INSPECTIONS AND PERMITS ARE FREE OF CHARGE.

RESIDENTIAL DEBRIS REMOVAL BEGINS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2017

Residents who are in the process of removing debris from their homes should follow separation instructions* in the diagram provided by Harris County to help speed up the process and allow for safe operations. Debris removal will be ongoing throughout unincorporated Harris County. Please be patient and be prepared.
If you are in the process of clean-up and debris removal from your property, please take precautions to prevent disaster-related casualties and fatalities.

• Be aware of damaged water, gas, and electric lines.
• Be aware of damaged building and construction materials.
• Do not attempt to conduct major tree work or reconstruction without proper equipment, permits, and training.
• Be aware of household hazardous waste and contaminants.
• Report any hazardous materials spills to: Harris County Pollution Control Services Department at 713-920-2831.
